Last year, it was announced that a documentary on the the partnership between Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine called The Defiant Ones was going to air on HBO but we didn’t hear anything about it after that.
Today, the network has released the official trailer for the upcoming four part documentary which airs July 9th. The series, which is being directed by Allen Hughes (Menace II Society) will follow the success story of the unlikely pair of Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine. The duo created history with their successful partnership on Aftermath Records, discovering Eminem, collaborating on Beats Electronics and then eventually selling that brand to Apple.
The series will focus on the duo’s impact on contemporary culture and feature interviews with the likes of Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Bono, Nas, Ice Cube and more. It will also feature some never-before-seen footage from a multitude of recording and writing sessions with Eazy-E, JJ Fad, Stevie Nicks, N.W.A., Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen and U2, among others.
