Bilal Oliver has only had one official album release, Ist Born Second in 2001 and a bootlegged album in 2005 but his following is immense and his vocals are respected by the biggest names in the industry. He’s now getting ready to release his new album titled Ait Tight’s Revenge on September 14th. Bilal calls the album ‘a mix of jazz, hip-hop, soul, blues, and experimental free music’.
‘Free’ produced by Nottz is the rumored first single from the project. Other producers on the album include 88 Keys (Mos Def, Macy Gray, Musiq Soulchild), Shafiq Husayn of Sa-Ra and Tone Whitefield. Below is an excerpt from a new interview with VIBE magazine.
So this is your first album in six years. First studio album in ten years. Do you feel this is the best Bilal work to date?
Yeah, I’m happy about it. My whole concept was to be able to write real book tunes; tunes that can really come alive when we play live and still be it’s own situation when we record it. Stuff that we can reproduce live on a whole ‘nother level and I’ve ben able to do that on this record. I’m happy where I am right now. I feel this is a good place to grow.
