Pharrell was at the UM Gusman Concert Hall at The University of Miami Frost School of Music this past Fall to record the ‘I Am Other’ theme with the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra. Some footage of the amazing recording process has been released by the institute. It sounds great in the headphones. Pharrell seems to be really excited about the tune and you can tell why. We are guessing this will make the official theme for his I Am Other imprint or at least feature in one of his upcoming projects.
Williams composed the mixed-genre orchestral work—which features soft and ethereal atmospheres contrasted with fortissimo brass themes and driving rhythms—to explore a different side of his musical creativity, and to encourage his hip-hop fan base to expand their musical horizons. Shelly Berg orchestrated and conducted the work, and Director of Recording Services Paul Griffith (B.M. ’83) was the recording engineer.
