December 17 saw one major release in stores, B.o.B’s third album Underground Luxury and according to HDD, it is on course to sell a disappointing 35-40k in the first week.
My thoughts on this below.
These are probably the first week sales projections which have struck me the most this year. Quite honestly, I wasn’t expecting him to do anything more than 100k since the roll out didn’t seem too strong this time. Why am I so disappointed? Because I feel this album is easily his best so far.
I often compare his situation to 50 Cent because his fans and some folks from the media are often confused as to what kind of music they want this talented artist to create. When he does crossover records, they say he isn’t “Hip-Hop” enough and when he tries to make traditional Hip-Hop, a section from the audience demands the Pop sound. This is, according to me, one of the worst situations an artist can go through. I feel like B.o.B had the ultimate balance between those two sounds on this project. Hopefully, word of mouth on how good the album is will help it push more units — and age well.
