J. Cole has been very selective in doing press for his third album 2014 Forest Hills Drive. A night before performing on David Letterman, he sat down with NPR Microphone Check for an interview with hosts Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Frannie Kelley.
In the one hour interview, Cole talks about inspiration behind his album title, expectations from the album, if he considers himself “free”, conversations with Kendrick Lamar, meaning behind different songs on the LP, why he’s been against doing interviews, whether he wants radio’s support and much more.
