Forbes is very fond of doing these rich Hip-Hop artist lists as it creates quite a hype and gets the people talking on social media.
They are back today with their 5 Wealthiest Hip-Hop Artists list and it will be a surprise for few to know that Dr. Dre isn’t at the top anymore. Diddy ranks number 1 on the list with $735 million while Dre follows him closely at $700 million, thanks to last year’s Apple deal.
Diddy’s fortunes include major profits from Ciroc plus his interests in fashion brands Sean John and Enyce, alkaline water brand Aquahydrate, new tequila DeLeon and multimedia network Revolt.
Jay Z is third on the list with $550 million but may move up the list next time if his newest venture Tidal becomes a success.
50 Cent is back in the top 5 with fortune of $155 million with success in his SMS headphones, Effen vodka and Frigo underwear business ventures. Birdman rounds off the Top 5 at $150 million.
Top 5 list recap:
1. Diddy
2. Dr. Dre
3. Jay Z
4. 50 Cent
5. Birdman
In order to complete the Forbes Five list, we follow the same procedures used to calculate our list of the world’s billionaires: valuing current holdings, looking at past earnings and talking to analysts, attorneys, managers, other industry players and even some of the moguls themselves to find out as many details as possible.
