HHNM welcomes you to the latest edition of our weekly Saturday Spotlight series! For those of you in need of discovering new talent in Hip-Hop, you’ve come to the right place. This weekend we’ll focus on six artists, those being Mic Kellogg, Devin Miles, Brain Rapp, Paige Young, Flizy and Ron Beatty.
Remember: We take submissions for this series. Please see guidelines here.
Mic Kellogg
There’s not much to find out about our first pick, Mic Kellogg. As of now, he only has three songs available on the internet, all of which he themes around breakfast. He just dropped the most recent one, ‘Tune Out’ which is self produced. It’s an intriguing listen and a great conceptual track which will leave listeners wanting much more. Check out ‘Tune Out’ (which Pigeons And Planes debuted recently) below.
Devin Miles
Next up is Pittsburgh artist Devin Miles who comes through with ‘Millions’. Devin intends on having a successful Summer and with one listen of the new street single, it’s easy to understand why. ‘Millions’ showcases his addictive, raspy voice and lazy flow which, over Christo’s mesmerising production, makes for a great first impression. You’ll have this one on repeat.
Brain Rapp
If you’re not having the best Saturday, this next song from Brain Rapp is sure to lift your spirits. Brain was born and raised in Maryland and got into Hip-Hop after he stole his older sister’s copy of Aquemini. We’ll excuse him for it because he’s certainly talented. Although his next project is titled Elevator Music, this first single for it titled ‘Where You Been’ is far from down beat. Check it out below.
Paige Young
Our fourth pick is 21 year old Paige Young who hails from the UK. She teams up with Chip (who you might know best for being signed to T.I.’s Hustle Gang imprint for quite some time) and liberates the video for her debut single ‘All The Way’ which will appear on her forthcoming Polaroids EP. The song is impressive, especially considering how young Paige really is. Be on the look out for new music!
Flizy
If you had any confusion about what an emoji was before this record, Maryland rapper Flizy is about to set the record straight. In an age where we use our phones more and more, this kind of track is appreciated. ‘Emojis’ is a cut from the recently released Live From The DoJo mixtape. Take your iPhone out and rap along. Fire emoji.
Ron Beatty
Last but not least is Ron Beatty. Ron is formerly known as Chedda Chapp and hails from New Bern, NC. What might interest you is that he shares one of the same mentors as J. Cole, Nervous Reck whose name you might recognise from our feature a few weeks back. Ron comes through with the visual for ‘Heard About Me’ which will be a part of his forthcoming Manifest Destiny project. If you haven’t heard about him by now, you will soon. Check it out below.
