Royce 5’9″ To Release 3 Projects This Year

Fans of Royce 5’9″ should be a satisfied lot this year.

Kendrick Lamar Shakes Up The Super Bowl With Bold Drake Diss And Surprise Guests
Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl 59 halftime performance was nothing short of legendary, leaving fans buzzing with surprise cameos and bold moments that took his long-running feud with Drake to new heights. Kicking off with an unreleased song snippet and followed by “Squabble Up” from his latest album GNX, Kendrick immediately set the tone for a game-changing performance. Fans eagerly waited to see if Kendrick would play his diss track Not Like Us, especially with Drake's ongoing lawsuit against him and his label for defamation and harassment. Lamar's performance included an unexpected appearance by SZA and a quirky cameo from Serena Williams, along with Samuel L. Jackson’s comedic interruptions, all building the suspense around the Drake drama. In the middle of his performance, Kendrick turned up the heat, looking straight into the camera and directly addressing Drake with his famous lyrics, “I heard you like them young," as fans held their breath. Despite the tension, Kendrick censored himself when it came time to call Drake a "certified lover boy" and avoided saying “pedophile,” which had been widely speculated. Social media lit up with mixed reactions, with some fans mocking the performance as a "mid mashup" and others noting the intense hostility toward Drake. With the hashtag #KendrickBowl trending, it’s clear that Kendrick’s performance was a cultural moment that pushed boundaries—but has he gone too far, or is this just another chapter in hip-hop history? Only time will tell, and Drake has yet to respond.

The respected emcee is set to release his new album Layers on April 15th with ‘Tabernacle’ serving as the first single. Along with dropping the music video, he’s been doing quite a bit of press to promote his run.

In an interview with XXL, Royce reveals that before Layers, he will also be releasing an EP titled Respect The Shooter. The song ‘Dead Presidents Heads‘ which he debuted on the same day as ‘Tabernacle’ will appear on the project. In addition to that, right after Layers, he will come back with another proper studio album which he made Eminem hear recently.

You mentioned playing Layers for some people. Have you played Eminem the album?
I haven’t had a chance to play him this album. I played him some of my other album, but not this one because I’ve been real busy running around, doing a lot of traveling. He’s been traveling. We normally travel together because I’m usually in his traveling party but I haven’t been able to travel with him the last couple times he’s left Detroit, so I haven’t really got a chance to see him and play it for him.

Did he have any thoughts on the other album?
Yeah, yeah… he loved that one. He said a whole lot of good shit about that one. He was definitely taken aback by that one. He was real surprised. He said he didn’t expect it to be that good even though he expected it to be good. He said I opened up a new chamber, a new part of myself that even he didn’t know about. Songs like “Tabernacle” he was like, “Yo, you said shit in that song I didn’t even know, and I’ve been knowing you for 20 years.”
