The reception to Drake’s new album Views may have been a mixed bag but the cash registers are ringing.
Staying true to the early projections, the album has moved approximately 1.07 million copies (including streams) in the first week, with majority of it of course coming from Apple Music and iTunes. Pandora radio was the only other outlet with the rights to stream the album in that window. The album is available on multiple services today, including Amazon which is selling the physical CD.
Views generated a record shattering 300 million streams in the U.S. alone, surpassing Beyonce’s streaming numbers for Lemonade which she achieved just last week. Stay tuned for the official Soundscan numbers reflecting the exact tally for pure sales.
Congrats to Drizzy for going platinum in the first week!
UPDATE: We now have the pure album-stream split. The album sold a whopping 855k copies in the first week while rest of the 1.07 million were from streams. Also, he’s projected to sell 160-180k copies in his second week (290-315k SPS) which will help him retain the number 1 spot on the charts.
