Tonight saw the premiere of episode of VH1’s new Hip-Hop based series, The Breaks. Set in New York in 1990, the show tracks the golden age of Hip-Hop when its future was hard to predict.
Originally a TV movie for VH1 in 2016, The Breaks is now a full-fledged series, directed by Seith Mann, a veteran director of shows such as The Wire. The TV series picks up where the original 2016 VH1 original movie left off and stars Deevee (Mack Wilds), David (David Call), Barry (Wood Harris), Nikki (Afton‎ Williamson) and Damita (Melonie Diaz).
In the first episode that aired tonight (Feb. 20), DeeVee hears the song he produced with Ahm on the radio and on her first day as Barry Foray’s personal assistant, Nikki Jones learns that she better keep up. Watch the full episode below.
