As the legal battles for Prince’s unreleased and master recordings continue to rage on, we get to hear a never heard before song from the legend called ‘Electric Intercourse’. A couple of live recordings of the song have surfaced in the past but this is the very first time fans are getting to hear the studio version.
Brief history about the song via Prince’s Vault:
“Electric Intercourse is an unreleased song recorded live on 3 August 1983 at First Avenue, Minneapolis, MN, USA (during the same concert where live versions of Let’s Go Crazy, Computer Blue, I Would Die 4 U, Baby I’m A Star and Purple Rain were also recorded). No studio version is known to exist; Prince used the live version when adding overdubs to the track in mid-September 1983 at Sunset Sound, Hollywood, CA, USA. It is likely the track was planned to be included on the album Purple Rain (and in the movie Purple Rain) in the same overdubbed-live format as I Would Die 4 U, Baby I’m A Star and Purple Rain. A few days after recording overdubs, however, Prince recorded The Beautiful Ones, which replaced ‘Electric Intercourse’.”
The track appears on the upcoming set Purple Rain Deluxe (Expanded Edition) which will release on June 23rd via NPG Records/Warner Bros. The album was first announced back in October when the label also claimed that Prince had agreed on this release before he passed away. It is now up for pre-order on iTunes and looks like it will contain even more unreleased songs, mixes, and alternate versions of previously released songs. For now, stream the classic sounding ‘Electric Intercourse’ below.
