Nas and Jungle initially announced on instagram that Hip-Hop legend Prodigy had passed away at around 1:30PM EST today and everyone who heard about it hoped and prayed that it was somehow not true because there were no other sources. Unfortunately, it has now been confirmed that Prodigy of Mobb Deep has died at the young age of 42.

The cause of death is unknown at this time but the rapper was hospitalised in Vegas this past weekend for complications caused by a sickle cell anemia crisis. The rapper suffered from sickle cell from birth and it led him to a much needed healthy lifestyle eventually. A lot of the shock in the community and on social media stems from the fact that the legend performed at HOT 97 Summer Jam with Havoc and Joey Badass less than two weeks ago and as far as we knew, everything was fine and he was his usual self. He even performed this past Saturday in Vegas, where he passed away.
