The three-day Meadows Music and Arts Festival kicked off its second year at Citi Field in New York City on Friday. Jay-Z was headlining but it also featured other top performers such as Migos, Tegan and Sara, Blood Orange, Two Door Cinema Club and Run the Jewels.
As expected, the legendary rapper performed popular songs from his last album 4:44 (including the latest single ‘Bam’) as well as classic cuts from his past discography. He opened the set with the Rihanna featured ‘Run This Town’ from Blueprint 3 and Watch The Throne‘s ‘No Church In the Wild’. He mixed it up throughout the set, going from ‘Where I’m From’ into ‘Marcy Me’, before the stadium ready ‘Empire State of Mind’.
Jay-Z paid tribute to Colin Kaepernick, dedicating his song ‘The Story of O.J.’ to the NFL quarterback who courted controversy for refusal to stand during the National Anthem. “I want to dedicate this song to Colin Kaepernick tonight,” Jay said to the packed crowd. “I want to dedicate this song to anyone who was held back.” He also paid respects to the late Chester Bennington from Linkin Park. “I want to make a dedication to a great man who’s no longer here with us,” Hov announced before tearing through ‘Numb/Encore’. “Chester Bennington from Linkin Park.”
