The Hip-Hop community is quite happy with the nominations at 2018 GRAMMYs since it’s the first time when artists from the genre have got so much recognition in the main categories. But Q-Tip is quite unhappy with the snub to A Tribe Called Quest.
Taking to Instagram, Q-Tip went on a rant at the GRAMMYs for ignoring their latest album We Got It From Here⌠Thank You 4 Your Service which was their first release in 18 years. âIâm sick of yâall fâing Grammy nâas, man,â said Q-Tip. âYou got us to get out there to perform last year and sâ and yâall donât give us no fâing nominations? What happened?â
Tip accused them for exploiting the group by enlisting them for a performance at the 217 GRAMMYs but snubbing them for their number 1 album.
“Yâall think itâs some sort of caveat because this is the first time that no white man wasnât nominated in no major categories and sâ? We were the most black cultured group out. Thatâs all we stood on. Thatâs what we represented,â Q-Tip said in the first video. âThis fâing album that we just put out, this last Tribe album, it stands with everybody elseâs sâ thatâs up there. I donât give a fâ. Respect to everybody who is nominated and all that, but whatever, Iâm speaking for mine.â
Tip suggested that he was asked by legendary producer 9th Wonder to participate in the voting committee but declined. Wonderâs Jamla Records artist Rapsody has been nominated for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Song for the upcoming ceremony. Watch Tip’s rants below.
