Rihanna is prepping the release of her lingerie line Savage on May 11th and in anticipation of the same, covers the June edition of Vogue magazine.
In the cover story, she talks about fashion and what the upcoming release means to her, importance of respecting different body types, why women need to take charge, makeup and much more. The topic of her former lover Drake also comes up in the conversation, in reference to the rapper presenting the Video Vanguard award to his frequent collaborator at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards.
If you remember, Drake gave a long speech (watch above) before handing over the awards and then appeared to try to seal the deal with a kiss, but Rihanna pulled away as she accepted her moon man statue. Rihanna seemed uncomfortable talking about the incident and reveals that they don’t have a friendship anymore. See quote below.
Rihanna winces slightly at the mention of the rapper’s name before her eyes glaze over with cool indifference. “The VMAs is such a fan-focused awards show, so having that energy around me, and knowing the people who had received the award in the past, made it feel like a big deal,” she says. “Waiting through that speech was probably the most uncomfortable part. I don’t like too many compliments; I don’t like to be put on blast.” When I ask about the current state of their friendship, her attitude is sanguine. “We don’t have a friendship now, but we’re not enemies either. It is what it is.”
