ASAP Rocky continues to spend time behind bars in Sweden but the U.S. government including President Trump, is trying to do something about it.
Donald Trump tweeted on Friday afternoon that he spoke with his friend Kanye West about helping out the rapper who was arrested more than two weeks ago following a brawl in the streets of Stockholm. “Just spoke to @KanyeWest about his friend A$AP Rocky’s incarceration. I will be calling the very talented Prime Minister of Sweden to see what we can do about helping A$AP Rocky,” Trump said. “So many people would like to see this quickly resolved!” he continued.

On Friday, Trump noted that first lady Melania Trump and Kim Kardashian had brought the matter to his attention. “We’ll be talking to them — we already started,” he told reporters in the Oval Office about Swedish authorities. “Many, many members of the African-American community have called me, friends of mine, and said ‘Can you help?’ I personally don’t know A$AP Rocky, but I can tell you he has tremendous support from the African American community in this country.”

Maybe Trump believes he can use this cause to defend himself against accusations of racism in wake of his comments about Democratic congresswomen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley and Rashida Tlaib. He added “When I say African American, I think I can really say from everybody in this country, because we’re all one.”
UPDATE: Trump says he has spoken to Swedish PM and will personally vouch for his bail.
Just had a very good call with @SwedishPM Stefan Löfven who assured me that American citizen A$AP Rocky will be treated fairly. Likewise, I assured him that A$AP was not a flight risk and offered to personally vouch for his bail, or an alternative….

But Stefan Lofven told reporters that he “cannot and will not attempt to influence prosecutors or courts.” He continued: “in Sweden, everyone is equal before the law, and this includes visitors from other countries.”
