Welcome back to Week 6 of Saturday Spotlight, folks! Going strong, the HHNM emails have been flooding with submissions. The pool of talent brought to our attention has, for the most part, stunned us. Many different styles, a plethora of genres to blend, and distinct personalities are tossed into a multi-cultural melting pot. The results of each period speak for itself.
This is the beauty of rap music, the snares and claps entwined with chops and sampling are only pieces of the portrait. The core is the story artists are willing to share for the sake of creation. Your pen is the gateway to another’s imagination, someone’s guidance, and motivation, as well as a method of coping for individuals in need of support and understanding. Your artistry holds more significance than one might think.
Without further ado, let’s introduce our picks for Week 6 of Saturday Spotlight! In case you missed our last picks Nana and Kordoroy Floyd and Nana, peep it here.
The Mighty Capeech
Introducing first is The Mighty Capeech. On the first listen of “Saving My Love”, the hexing sample of a woman singing into a soothing hum captures the listener’s attention. Armed with lucid storytelling, Peech raps with a stern realness that resonates within every bar spit. The song is a soundtrack to failing relationships, told through the lens of a man realizing that love, at first sight, isn’t enough when loyalty is out of the equation. Another track that we really like from his submission is “Everybody’ which he describes as a “middle finger F you to all Hip Hop caricatures.” We loved the old school touch in his overall sound. Check out “Saving My Love” and “Everybody” below:
Blake Fades
And next up is Blake Fades, the Southern Oklahoma artist that’s combining a larger-than-life personality with explosive melody and rhythm that makes it difficult to not have a fun time. His latest single “6AM”, uses Trap cadence over plucking guitar strings. Blake’s vocals on the track are a presence on its own, bursting with a powerful voice that’s enriched with his Countryside upbringings. “6AM” is a song that has to be experienced more than once as Blake’s hook is so infectious. Hitting replay is a must, as is with most of his other tracks as well.
