Welcome to another edition of the Saturday Spotlight!
Every week we receive an overwhelming amount of submissions, and it’s steadily growing. Singers, producers, and rappers have connected with us showcasing undeniable skill and creativity. One of the most important things, however, is individuality. Finding your sense of self, your ideal sound that specifically defines you and no one else is key for breaking out in this competitive sport. Explore and experiment, test new lanes that may go against the grain but the lightning captured from the friction may be the magic you’re looking for. Now let’s introduce our picks for this week. Oh, you can submit to us on this link.
Johnny Drama
Johnny Drama knows how to create an icy atmosphere, with his autotune layered vocals forming icicles throughout his songs. On “Long Story Short”, the air is thin to the point you can see the condensation off Johnny’s lines. The song, which serves as an intro to his latest album Took It personal, features a hypotonic trap beat where he shows confidence, using melody to capture his emotions through the various breaks of the track. Dobey Dobe
Dobey Dobe is a master of his craft, rapping with complete tenacity with conscious lyrics that are easy to digest and resonate with. On his latest single, “Lone”, Dobey’s off-kilter delivery exuberantly shines through, completely complementing the sharpness of his wordplay. Dobey reflects on the tendencies of other people, looking at his situations from the outside-in. It’s hard not to mash the replay button once you’re tangled in his web of melodies and dynamic verses. Through our artist discovery platform Saturday Spotlight, we have discovered some amazing talent in the past including Russ, Ty Dolla Sign, Mez, IDK, Victoria Monét and Trap Beckham to name just a few. In most cases, coverage on HHNM was their first look among media outlets. Find the submission guidelines here.
