Welcome back to another edition of Saturday Spotlight. Each week we review submissions from all over the globe, picking the best out of the batch to highlight at the end of the week. If you’re an aspiring rapper, a producer wanting to create a buzz, or a singer looking to expose their talent, the Saturday Spotlight series is dedicated to discovering the next star.
Whether it’s your latest single or a new beat you made, all upcoming artists can submit music to us for Saturday Spotlight on this link.
JayRoddy
Hailing from Massachusetts, JayRoddy is one of those artists who manages to emulate a hit commercial vibe while staying true to his own sound and persona. With ‘Plzzz Do’, he ticks the boxes of both fun and introspective lyricism, commercial value, and melodic control.
On ‘Plzzz Do’, JayRoddy’s flow over the trappy production is effortless — his ad libs and well-chosen pauses demonstrate clean and modern songwriting that are sure to elevate his career over time. Keep an eye out for JayRoddy’s new track “that’s my bby”, set to release on the 25th of February.
Risskant
“I’m a big boy, she invests in my dick-groin like bitcoin/We make sick porn then I get going” and “I don’t have a friend in the room, I’ll cross you/I killed my own twin in the womb” are just a couple of the outlandish yet intriguing bars to feature on Risskant‘s four-man track, ‘Shots.’
Risskant is an apt name for an artist who is certainly taking a risk with his out-of-pocket style and provocative lyrics. Yet, it’s impossible not to respect him. On Shots, Risskant displays refreshingly hardcore punchline bars and a choppy flow that make him a stand-out from artists trying too hard to be something they’re not.
‘Shots’ is the third single off of Risskant’s upcoming EP ‘Around the World EP’, set to drop February 26th.
Through our artist discovery platform Saturday Spotlight, we have discovered some amazing talent in the past including Russ, Ty Dolla Sign, Mez, IDK, Victoria Monét and Trap Beckham to name just a few. In most cases, coverage on HHNM was their first look among media outlets. Find the submission guidelines here.
