Welcome back to another edition of Saturday Spotlight. Each week we review submissions from all over the globe, picking the best out of the batch to highlight at the end of the week. If you’re an aspiring rapper, a producer wanting to create a buzz, or a singer looking to expose their talent, Saturday Spotlight is dedicated to discovering the next star. This week, we received over 55 submissions — below are the two picks!
Whether it’s your latest single or a new beat you made, all upcoming artists can submit music to us for Saturday Spotlight on this link.
Mvsua Tha BlacSheep
Mvsua Tha BlacSheep, hailing from Atlanta, stands out for both his poetic lyricism and calm, self-assured flow that expresses vulnerability while remaining effortlessly cool. Coming from a rocky past and humble beginnings in Dekalb County, Georgia, Mvsua’s tumultuous life inspired him to channel his emotions through poetry at an early age. Growing up on music ranging from artists like Tupac to OutKast to Miles Davis, Mvsua’s influences radiate through the versatility of his sound.
One of his latest tracks, Codeine, is an ode to his effort to push through his struggles, using them as a fuel for his personal growth as a person. In Codeine, Mvsua gives listeners insight on his reliance on various vices and how he once used them as a means of escapism — but no longer. The track is smooth with elements of jazz, and a vocal tone that listeners can both reflect to and cruise to.

Alexia Jayy
Though RnB aficionado Alexia Jayy has certainly been gaining traction with co-signs from the likes of Chris Brown, Jazmine Sullivan, and Muni Long, her music certainly speaks for itself even without the impressive name-drops. Alexia Jayy possesses the rare combination of powerful, thick vocal ability while remaining light and soft on the beat. Her influences, such as Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, and Sam Cooke, shine through with her songwriting. Her flow and delivery feel classic, perhaps also stemming from her experience with Gospel singing from an early age.
Jayy’s latest single ‘I Need A Man’, is the epitome of soulful RnB — the kind that instantly invokes a sultry and sensual atmosphere into any room. Singing with emotion and raw confidence, Jayy describes the kind of man she wants in her life, one that makes her feel safe, comfortable, and truly loved. The track is exemplary of contemporary songwriting with a timeless quality.
