Welcome back to another edition of Saturday Spotlight. Each week we review submissions from all over the globe, picking the best out of the batch to highlight at the end of the week. If you’re an aspiring rapper, a producer wanting to create a buzz, or a singer looking to expose their talent, Saturday Spotlight is dedicated to discovering the next star. This week, we received over 40 submissions — below are the two picks!
Whether it’s your latest single or a new beat you made, all upcoming artists can submit music to us for Saturday Spotlight on this link.
Orayvia
24 year-old Orayvia Godoy, raised in Brooklyn, NYC, is another artist whose talent in songwriting and vocals have the power to silence the “Is RnB dead?” conversation that has been taking the internet by storm. Though Orayvia’s catalogue boasts a plethora of gorgeous RnB ballads, her latest release ‘Let Me Go’ is a stand-out, demonstrating growth in Orayvia’s willingness to experiment and tap into a more alternative sound. With elements of old school RnB in the layered harmonies, Orayvia adds a contemporary twist with her pop-like flows in her writing; riding the beat in ways that feel familiar yet unpredictable. With ‘Let Me Go’, Orayvia also dips into the waters of pop with the vocal production, sprinkled with airy reverbs and flangers. ‘Let Me Go’ tells Orayvia’s story of trying to escape the addiction of a relationship she no longer finds peace in.
MILLII
MILLII from Oklahoma City is an artist who can be characterized most prominently by his flow, tone, and delivery — and one of his most recent releases, ‘METROPOLIS IN OKC’ is a testament to that. The track is a slice-of-life of the young artist working towards his dream of being a house-hold name artist, addressing those who don’t believe in him while seamlessly offering the listeners bars that give insight into his everyday life. The exciting thing about MILLII’s artistry is his ability to cleverly blur the lines between layered metaphors and punchline bars, a favourite being: “Mixing the dark with the light I’m a demon” — perhaps referring to mixing drinks, as well as the mental aspect of oscillating between good and evil.
Through our artist discovery platform Saturday Spotlight, we have discovered some amazing talent in the past including Russ, Ty Dolla Sign, Mez, IDK, Victoria Monét and Trap Beckham to name just a few. In most cases, coverage on HHNM was their first look among media outlets. Find the submission guidelines here.
