Apple Music’s former global creative director Larry Jackson has announced the launch of his new company gamma.
gamma will be a multi disciplinary company with endeavors in music, films, merchandise, fashion, web3 and other areas. Music exec Ike Youssef — who worked with Jackson at Interscope — is the co-founder of the company and will serve as its president. Larry had left Apple last September but kept quiet about his next move.
Backers of the company include Todd Boehly’s Eldridge Industries, Apple and indie film studio A24. The company is said to have $1 billion available in equity and debt and in addition to the above, has also acquired a stake in the Death Row catalog.
Usher and Rick Ross will be the first acts to release music through the platform which has also acquired the distribution platform Vydia. A new project from Usher, part of a co-venture between the artist and L.A. Reid, will be one of the first releases on gamma.
There are reports that Larry is in conversation with Travis Scott as well since he only has one album left to deliver to Epic Records.
The announcement states that the company “operates in distinct but connected business segments: recorded music, visual content, media, creative agency, and direct-to-consumer products. Gamma’s capabilities revolve around three pillars — content creation, content distribution, and development of the artist-centered business enterprise.” It is also set to collaborate with Eldridge on the growth and development of its music copyrights, which include the Killers’ pre-2020 songs, an investment in Bruce Springsteen’s catalog and others.
gamma has also struck podcast deals with Naomi Campbell and Shade Room founder Angelica Nwandu but details around it are scarce at the moment.
