Dr. Dre is the latest guest on Peacock’s Hart to Heart series hosted by Kevin Hart.
During the chat, he spoke on how Kendrick Lamar was a true artist and separate from rest of the pack. He calls him a “forever artist” and says he could disappear for 5 years and still come back and make a big impression.
“We have a fantastic relationship. He’s amazing, man. Kendrick is one of those artists that we call ‘forever artists.’ He could disappear for f**king five years or something like that and come back and fuck our heads up, you know?” he said.
“Some artists feel like, ‘I have to do something all the time so I won’t be forgotten.’ That’s not him. He can disappear and come back with something that’s shocking, that’s amazing and everyone’s gonna tune in and listen.”
Dre also addressed some recent instances of older artists and community leaders hating on younger hip hop. He says if they don’t like it, they should skip listening to it but not hate on it.
“F**k that,” Dre said. “Let me tell you something. Hip-hop is what it is. Anybody that’s talking about the state of hip-hop right now and talking about it from a negative place sounds like somebody’s fucking grandfather. You know what I’m saying? This is just what it is. Hip-hop is evolving. If you don’t like it, don’t listen to it.”
