Westside Gunn, the Griselda head honcho who has arguably redefined much of boom bap rap in the modern era, is set to return with an album that might just be his best work thus far. We say this because the news comes in hot in the wake of his self-announced retirement from making albums as claimed last year. If Gunn is out and about, it means something special is brewing — and we cannot wait for it.

Earlier, Westside Gunn had spoken about retiring from making studio albums and just having fun without the pressure — and yet, a studio album is out, culminating the Flygod Is An Awesome God trilogy. Gunn had claimed that he’d still be dumping music and tapes, but that he didn’t want the pressure of creating a studio project and that ‘there’s no pressure.’ But much has changed for the artist since he last had these thoughts.

The rapper unfortunately lost a close friend, Infinite (Big Dump), in April this year and had not said much until only recently this month, when Gunn took to IG to reassure his followers and claimed that he is still the Flygod , that he’s okay and that he appreciates the concern from his fans. To return the love, the artist has announced the third project in the Flygod series, which is proclaimed to be dark and dusty enough for Gunn to bring the mask out — which ultimately has been featured on the album cover itself.
