Kanye West performed in China over the weekend for the first time in 16 years.
Fans were certainly very surprised to know that the Chinese government, known to be very picky in who they allow in the country, let Kanye perform a show on their land. That too not in a major city but Hainan, an obscure island province.
Speaking to CNBC, Michael Zhou of Jingjian, a consultancy that specializes in China tourism, explained that this show is a part of a wider effort to make the area open to more travel. “This is Hainan trying hard to forge its branding as an international destination,” he said.
Ye sold close to 42,000 tickets in a show that featured Ty Dolla $ign on Sunday. He officially announced the show late last month after a previously announced Vultures show in Taiwan was called off.
During the set, Kanye decided to perform a new never heard before song reportedly called ‘Preacher Man’. Watch the clip below.
