De La Soul and BMG are commemorating the 20th anniversary of the group’s seventh studio album, The Grind Date with special vinyl and CD packages.
Apart from the original songs from the album, it will also include bonus tracks and instrumental versions, set to arrive on March 21. The critically acclaimed album released in 2004 and featured guests such as MF Doom, Ghostface Killah, Carl Thomas and Common. Pre-order here.
Two new tracks will be featured on the set: ‘Bigger’ and ‘Respect’ and the group is gracious enough to share the first one today. ‘Bigger’ is taken from the original studio sessions for the album — listen below.
“With the 20th Anniversary of Grind Date we just feel blessed in knowing that we put together this album that, right now, with its re-release feels fresh, it doesn’t feel outdated, the lyrics feel relevant,” says Posdnous (Pos). “It really feels good to know that with the re-release of this album it takes myself and Mase back to knowing that this album was the first album done outside of our Tommy Boy relationship and it stands the test of time alongside that catalog, so yeah it’s a blessing.”
