These radio wars keep getting bigger and uglier.
Big Boy, the host of popular show Big Boy’s Neighborhood on Power 106 L.A. has been sued by the owner Emmis Communications over breach of contract. Emmis allege that Big Boy made a switch to a iHeartMedia (Clear Channel) radio station because he was being offered better money. The problem is that, one, his contract wasn’t expiring until February 28 and two, he had breached the contract by refusing Emmis’ offer to match a competitor’s offer and retain him.
Emmis say they offered him the same pay and perks but he still went ahead and left the station. The press releases says:
“EMMIS first discovered ALEXANDER, 45, working as a body guard more than 20 years ago, and has invested substantially over the years in helping him develop into the star that he is today.”
The suit seeks millions of dollars in damages a well as preliminary and permanent injunctions to block Big Boy from joining competitor iHeartMedia.
