Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ sophomore album This Unruly Mess I’ve Made is in stores now but not expected to match the success of their debut album The Heist.
While on the promo run, the duo shot for a cover of Billboard and sat down with the publication for a revealing interview. They also addressed the controversial song ‘White Privilege 2’ where they name drop various artists including Iggy Azalea.
“You’ve exploited and stolen the music, the moment/ The magic, the passion, the fashion, you toy with/ The culture was never yours to make better/ You’re Miley, you’re Elvis, you’re Iggy Azalea.”
Iggy didn’t take the bar too well, tweeting: “he shouldnt have spent the last 3 yrs having friendly convos and taking pictures together at events etc if those were his feelings.”
But Macklemore now says he regrets not informing Iggy about his lyric before hand:
âI donât think people understood that Iâm in my own head [saying], âYouâre Miley, youâre Elvis, youâre Iggy Azaleaâ — Iâm talking about myself,” he explains. âIggy and I came up together. We were on the XXL âFreshmanâ cover together. Thereâs enough of a relationship that I should have let her know beforehand. And I didnât do that.â And he admits quietly, when asked if he’s followed up with the Australian rapper, âI havenât talked to her.”
