Surprise Unreleased Prince EP ‘Deliverance’ To Release This Friday; Stream The Title Track Now

A surprise new EP from Prince titled Deliverance will arrive this Friday, April 21 to commemorate the one year anniversary of his untimely death.

The 6 song EP will be released by Rogue Music Alliance that will feature “undiscovered studio recordings” from 2006-2008 when Prince was an independent artist. He recorded them as a protest to what he saw as an unjust music industry. It is questionably being released by RMA, a Vancouver, WA based record company. Prince co-wrote and co-produced these songs with engineer Ian Boxill around 2006. For the past year or so, Boxill has spent time finishing the production and mixing the songs to make them available to public. The EP is up for pre-order on iTunes now and will be released on Amazon, Google Play and other physical stores as well, but the press release skips the mention of TIDAL and Spotify.

Says Boxill, “I believe ‘Deliverance’ is a timely release with everything going on in the world today, and in light of the one-year anniversary of his passing. I hope when people hear Prince singing these songs it will bring comfort to many.” He continues, “Prince once told me that he would go to bed every night thinking of ways to bypass major labels and get his music directly to the public. When considering how to release this important work, we decided to go independent because that’s what Prince would have wanted.”

Interestingly, Paisley Park and Prince’s estate have already teamed up in a federal lawsuit against RMA and engineer Ian Boxill, accusing him of releasing the unpublished songs without permission and in violation of the contract Prince had with him. The filing states Boxill “is now trying to exploit one or more songs for his personal gain at expense of the Prince Estate.”

The lawsuit was initially filed in district court in Minneapolis, MN on Friday but it was re-filed in federal court Tuesday, since Boxill lives in California.
