Beyoncé, Jay-Z & Oprah Will Headline Global Citizen Festival in South Africa

Beyoncé, Jay-Z and Oprah Winfrey will be heading to South Africa for the 2018 Global Citizen Festival.

The three will be among a star-studded list of performers, hosts and other world leaders at the music festival on December 2 in Johannesburg. The event aims to encourage world leaders to commit to ending extreme poverty by 2030. This year’s event is titled “Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100,” which will celebrate the centenary year of Nelson Mandela and his legacy to help end poverty.

Ed Sheeran, Pharrell Williams, Usher, Chris Martin, Eddie Vedder, Cassper Nyovest, D’Banj, Femi Kuti, Sho Madjozi, Tiwa Savage and Wizkid are some of the other performers at the event. Gayle King, Naomi Campbell, Sir Bob Geldof, Bozoma St. John and Forest Whitaker will also help host the event. Oprah will deliver the keynote address at the festival where she will remember Madiba and his legacy.

“Over the last 30 years, great progress has been made in the fight to end extreme poverty but there is still much more to be done. Ten percent of the world’s population — approximately 750 million people — still remain trapped in this cycle,” he said. “This is intolerable in 2018. With the Global Citizen Festival Mandela 100 it is our goal to mobilize a generation to take action, calling on governments and the private sector to end this injustice in Nelson Mandela’s memory,” Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evans said in a statement.

How to get free tickets for the event:

Starting from Aug. 21, you can get involved on the Global Citizen platforms or with the Facebook Messenger bot — search “Global Citizen” in Facebook Messenger to learn more. There will also be opportunities for Global Citizens to earn free tickets by taking actions in their communities of Johannesburg, which will be announced soon. Those who sign-up at GlobalCitizen.org.za can earn bonus rewards and early access by referring their friends.
