The world is still mourning the loss of Nipsey Hussle who was shot dead on March 31 in front of The Marathon store. The rapper was honored with a posthumous humanitarian award at the 2019 BET Awards on June 23 in L.A.
Nipsey’s girlfriend, Lauren London, took the stage with rest of Nipsey’s family to make the honor even more emotional. “Thank you guys for all the love and support,” she told the crowd at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. “The Marathon continues again,” she simply said to end her speech as she held back tears.
Joining Lauren on stage was her and Nipsey’s son Kross, Nipsey and Tanisha Foster’s daughter Emani, in addition to Nipsey’s mother Angelique Smith, father Dawit Asghedom, grandmother Margaret Boutte, and Lauren’s other son, Cameron Carter. Nipsey’s mom, father and grandmother took turns on the mic to pay tribute to the fallen soldier. Watch the full acceptance speech here.
After the speech, Marsha Ambrosius, John Legend, YG and DJ Khaled performed a heartwarming medley to honor Nipsey. Watch the performance below.
