There have been numerous theories about meaning behind title of Jay-Z’s latest album 4:44. The album spent a second week at number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Hov has already explained the name in the album footnotes. He explained: “‘4:44′ is a song that I wrote, and it’s the crux of the album, just right in the middle of the album.” he writes. And I woke up, literally, at 4:44 in the morning, 4:44 AM, to write this song. So it became the title of the album and everything. It’s the title track because it’s such a powerful song, and I just believe one of the best songs I’ve ever written.”
While that seems believable, another unexpected theory has come to light today. “444” is the address of The Standard Hotel’s Le Bain (444 West 13th Street), which is the club atop the famous New York Hotel. Yes, it’s the same exact place with the elevator in which Solange attacked Jay-Z in presence of Beyonce. The video then released by TMZ had sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry.
This discovery was made by a person named Stephen Ossola on Twitter and gives birth to a very possible theory about the 4:44 album title and why the rapper chose it for his thirteenth and most personal album. It’s crazy that it took almost a month after the album’s release for someone to notice this The incident is also referred by Hov on the opening song ‘Kill Jay-Z’ with the lyrics: “You egged Solange on Knowin’ all along, all you had to say you was wrong.”
