Confused how J. Cole and Nas are rapping on the same beat? The young Roc Nation emcee finally explains the background story behind the No I.D. produced ‘Stay’ which Cole himself rapped on, dating back to 2009 and released as part of his Truly Yours EP. The beat is a few years old and result of an amazing session with No I.D. where they also came up with ‘Tears Of Joy‘, now belonging to Rick Ross. ‘Stay’ ended up on Nas’ Life Is Good and is my favorite cut from that project.
“That taught me a lesson real quick: If you want a record, you have to put some money down on it,” he said. “Honestly, I heard Nas’ joint one time, and I can’t listen again. It’s hard for me. It’s rightfully his record, he put it out first, and he killed it too, but I can’t listen.”
