Forbes is back at it again with its infamous list of Hip-Hop’s wealthiest artists, this time counting down the top 5 of the year 2016 so far.
Last year around the time, the list looked something like this: 1. Diddy, 2. Dr. Dre, 3. Jay Z, 4. 50 Cent, 5. Birdman.
But it’s Drake who has entered the space this year, replacing 50 Cent on the list and coming in at number 5.
Diddy has topped the list again this time with estimated worth of $750 million, thanks to his stakes in Diageo’s Ciroc vodka, his TV network Revolt, clothing line Sean John and alkaline water Aquahydrate.
Dr. Dre is number 2 with $710 million with Beats By Dre and his deal with Apple being the major driving force. His involvement in last year’s Straight Outta Compton biopic has also contributed to it.
Jay Z stays consistent with $610 million, majorly owing to his gamble with streaming service TIDAL which is now valued at three times its $56 million purchase price and currently carrying about 3 million subscribers.
At #4 is Birdman whose worth has dipped a bit from last year but still comes in with an estimated $110m. Drake is the new entry on the list at number 5, thanks to multi million-dollar paychecks from Nike, Sprite and Apple in the past year or so. The combined worth of all 5 is a staggering $2.2 billion.
2016 list:
1. Diddy ($750 million)
2. Dr. Dre (710 million)
3. Jay Z ($610 million)
4. Birdman ($110 milion)
5. Drake ($60 million)
