Travis Scott has had a big day today. He has finally released his sophomore album Birds In The Trap Sing McKnight as an Apple Music exclusive, featuring guest appearances from Andre 3000, Kendrick Lamar, Kid Cudi, Cassie, Bryson Tiller, The Weeknd and more.
He even unveiled a new collaboration with Lil Uzi Vert on his radio show called ‘RaRa’ that didn’t make the cut on the album (listen to the song here).
In an interview with Rollingstone, the rapper-producer speaks on the sound of the album, having been on arena tours, and reveals that he’s an executive producer on G.O.O.D Music’s Cruel Winter album which is coming later this year.
On Birds:
“I cut straight to the meat. I didn’t leave any room for, ‘Somebody might fuck with this part.’ I wanted to make parts of the album that everybody would enjoy.”
On being on arena tours with Rihanna & The Weeknd:
“An arena is so huge. I was like, ‘Man, how will I conquer this?’ I noticed some songs worked, some songs didn’t. … That’s super ill [for] going into the studio and making beats. [Learning which beats from Rodeo] didn’t work in an arena.”
On Kid Cudi’s inspiration:
“In my whole career, all I wanted was acceptance from Kid Cudi. I don’t care about nothing else! This dude saved my life. He kept me from doing a lot of fucked up shit to myself, kept me on the right path. That’s why I make music, that’s why I go hard for the fans, that’s why I tell security to move out the way — ’cause this dude gave me the passion, the information, the insight on how to grow up and be who you want to be.”
On Cruel Winter:
“We’ve got singles on top of singles on top of singles on top of nuclear bombs.”
