As The Weeknd’s new album Starboy featuring Kendrick Lamar, Lana Del Rey, Daft Punk and Future is officially in stores now, he’s teamed up with Beats1/Apple Music for an exclusive interview with Zane Lowe. This is one of his first proper interviews in audio/video form.
During the long chat where they also played selections from the LP, The Weeknd talked about a bunch of stuff including the theme of the fourth chapter aka Starboy, working with Kendrick Lamar on ‘Sidewalks’ (he calls K.Dot a “genius”), managing sobriety, making Pop music cool, working with Daft Punk and how they inspired him to keep his identity mysterious early in his career, his favorite song on the album (‘Secrets’), how ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ was the last song he recorded for Beauty Behind The Madness, Lana Del Rey being one of his closest friends from the industry, working with Future on the song ‘All I Know’, fighting anxiety during live performances, Prince’s influence on him and much more.
Abel also revealed that he’s working on a comic book based on his “Starboy” character and he wants to partner with a company like DC or Marvel to make it an event. The star addressed bowing out of Rihanna’s European tour earlier this year and promised that he will make up to his fans in Europe very soon.
Towards the end, the Toronto singer revealed that a collaborative album between him and Drake is very much possible and he thinks it will happen. He also hinted that he might record his next album in and inspired by New York. And yes, he has his cut hair kept safe.
