This week at Urban radio is definitely a landmark one. Maybe for the first time in history of the charts, the top 3 are songs from independent artists.
YFN Lucci has taken the number 1 spot from Chance The Rapper with his song ‘Key To The Streets‘ featuring Migos and Trouble. We already know how Chance is shaking up the music industry (he topped the charts a week ago with ‘No Problem‘) but YFN’s achievement is noteworthy as well. He’s signed to Atlanta based indie label Think It’s A Game Records which previously had number 1 singles with Trinidad James’ ‘All Gold Everything’ and Rich Homie Quan’s ‘Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)’.
The third spot is taken by Young M.A. with her hit single ‘Ooouuu‘ which continues to rise on the charts. With over a 400 spin gain this week, she’s looking all set to take the top spot on Urban radio in the coming weeks.
Will this help usher in a new movement for indie artists? We hope so.
