BET’s special show The New Edition Story has been anticipated by fans around the world ever since it was first announced years ago. The three-part miniseries is the biggest production in BET history, according to the network’s President of Programming, Stephen Hill.
The first part of the series aired tonight with two more to go on Jan. 25 and 26. The series, directed by famed director Chris Robinson (ATL, Real Husbands of Hollywood) tells the story of the popular boy band New Edition as it tracks the group’s humble beginnings in the Orchard Park housing projects in Roxbury, Boston, to the stars they became soon after.
It gives fans a glimpse of Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky, Mike, Ralph and Johnny’s stories of shady record contracts, the infighting, the breakups and the make ups and more — straight from the horse’s mouth.
Veteran producers Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis and Babyface produced all the music for the mini-series. You can watch the first part from tonight (Jan. 24) below.
UPDATE: Watch the second episode aired on Jan. 25 here and part 3 here.
