Lupe Fiasco recently courted controversy by saying that he didn’t give his the couple of albums his 100% since he was still contractually required to deliver projects for Atlantic Records, whom he pretty much hated. He later clarified his statement to us.
The talented Chicago emcee teased that he will be dropping new music soon from his forthcoming album DROGAS Wave and tonight, we get the first taste with ‘Coulda Been’. Day 1 Lupe fans will be able to recognize this song from around 2007, which till date remains one of Lu’s finest deeper cuts. The new version has a completely different production to go with it and it might be a rare case when a reworked product of a 10 year song has ended up sounding better than the original.
With rhymes like “this could be my third life, my third strike, Or my third wife been garbage on my first mic,” this is really Lupe Fiasco at his best. Stream ‘Coulda Been’ below.
