UPDATE 2 (August 2): The final, official numbers are in from Billboard/Nielsen and like expected, it was a very close race indeed. Meek Mill moved 102k copies in the first week with 37k out of that being pure sales. He comes in at #3 on the charts. Tyler, The Creator is number 2 with 106k (70k pure sales) and Lana Del Rey tops the charts with 107k (80k pure sales). It is her second number 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart.
UPDATE (July 28): The final numbers are now in. Meek Mill’s album sold 37,083 units in pure sales and when you count for streaming, the number is 86,623. These put him at #3 this week behind Lana Del Rey and Tyler, The Creator who accused TIDAL of trying to give Meek an advantage on numbers by using free streaming. But there’s a catch here: these numbers are coming from HDD who didn’t factor in TIDAL’s numbers for Meek’s album as a protest resulting from the manipulation accusations. So when Billboard/Nielsen comes out with their final report, the 87k is bound to go higher. Stay tuned for that.
Previous story (July 26):
Meek Mill’s last album Dreams Worth More Than Money came out at the perfect time and ended up being his biggest and best project selling around 250k copies first week. Since then overall things have been a little downhill for Meek with his Nicki break up, the Drake beef and more.
He released his new album Wins & Losses this past weekend as a triumphant comeback moment. The first week sales projections are now in.
The album is expected to sell 85k–90k sales plus streaming with 48k–53k of those being pure sales. This puts him in a three way race for the #1 spot next week with Lana Del Rey and Tyler, The Creator who fall in almost the exact same ball park. We’d have to wait for a few days to see who comes out on top!
