The Roots have combined forces with longtime collaborator Bilal for a new song ‘It Ain’t Fair’ which will appear on the upcoming soundtrack to the film Detroit. The Kathryn Bigelow-directed film is about the infamous 12th Street Detorit riot of 1967.
The soundtrack will also feature other Motown acts including Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Brenda Holloway and the Elgins. Bilal shines on the song obviously but it’s hard to ignore Black Thought’s inpactful raps. Detroit chronicles the 1967 12th Street riot with an eye towards both its historical context and continued relevance in the age of Black Lives Matter.
The film stars John Boyega, Algee Smith, Jacob Latimore, Jason Mitchell, Hannah Murray, Kaitlyn Dever and Will Poulter. The film hits theaters August 4th, while the soundtrack arrives July 28th via Motown. Hear ‘It Ain’t Fair’ below.
