Drake Did Not Submit ‘More Life’ for GRAMMYs Consideration

Drake Did Not Submit ‘More Life’ for GRAMMYs Consideration

Drake’s latest project More Life may be one of the popular albums of 2017 but looks like the rapper has no interest in earning a GRAMMY nod for it.

Two days ago, HitsDailyDouble noted that Drake has surprisingly not submitted his latest project, which he called a “playlist”, for any of the GRAMMY categories to the committee. That includes the main as well as genre categories. Associated Press has now confirmed the news that More Life indeed isn’t competing for any nomination this year, which are scheduled to be announced end of next month.

More Life was released in March this year and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. It has moved over 2 million copies till date but the lack of promo from Drizzy’s side for the project has been pretty evident. So what is the reason for the Toronto superstar’s decision? It’s not clear yet but there are multiple possibilities. One is that Drake doesn’t really consider More Life as an “album” and hence doesn’t want too much attention to it. Another reason could be that he doesn’t see a chance of winning any award against tough competition from the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z and J.Cole among others.

One more reason could be Drizzy’s dissatisfaction with the GRAMMYs on how they treated him last time. His hit ‘Hotline Bling’ won two GRAMMYs last year, for Best Rap Song and Best Rap/Sung Performance despite him not rapping a single bar on the song. Later, he had talked to DJ Semtex about it in an interview recorded just a day after the ceremony. “I’m a black artist, I’m apparently a rapper, even though ‘Hotline Bling’ is not a rap song,” Drake said. “The only category that they can manage to fit me in is in a rap category, maybe because I’ve rapped in the past or because I’m black.”

Drake is otherwise a three-time Grammy winner. He also won best rap album for 2011′s Take Care.
