Jermaine Dupri is one of the most influential moguls that Hip-Hop has seen and often does not get the credit he deserves in how many hit artists he introduced to the world. But how does he do in comparison to Outkast?
JD was the latest guest on The Breakfast Club on Power 105 where Charlamagne Tha God asked the rapper and producer who is more influential to Hip-Hop culture in Atlanta out of him and Outkast. Jermaine said they are both from different sides but as far as “culture” is concerned, he is the one who is more influential. “I brought people to Atlanta that had never seen Atlanta. I showed everybody in the world Magic City.. I was the first person to start throwing money in the club,” said JD at the 34:30 minute mark in the interview.
“I had to pay for all the magazines to come to Atlanta..no one was paying attention to what’s going on..as far as culture goes and having parties, bringing Puff, bringing Clue & Envy to Atlanta, that was all me,” he continued. He goes on to explain how he doesn’t get credit for early success of artists like Kris Kross. Do you agree with him?
In rest of the chat, he discussed his close friendship with Usher & how he dealt with the Herpes scandal (describes his new album as “heavy”), relationship with Bow Bow, his The Rap Game TV show, rumors of him and Janet Jackson getting back together (denies it) and more.
