With ‘God’s Plan’ hitting number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, Drake has broken several records. This is Drake’s second chart topper as a lead artist after ‘One Dance’ and fourth overall.
But the song, which appeared on the Scary Hours EP, has marked some new landmarks for the rapper and chart history overall. Drake has become the first artist ever to hit number 1 on the Hot 100 based solely on streams, according to a press release from his label, Republic Records. The song amassed 68 million U.S. on-demand streams in the first week (82.4 million overall) which was enough for a number 1 spot on Hot 100. It also sold 126k digital copies.
In addition to this, Drizzy is also the first act to simultaneously debut two songs in the top 10 of the Hot 100 twice since ‘Diplomatic Immunity’ entered at #7 on the chart. He previously did it on April 8, 2017, when ‘Passionfruit’ and ‘Portland’ debuted at #8 and #9 respectively.
‘God’s Plan’ is the most streamed song on Apple Music in a week with a total of 60 million-plus streams. It also crushed the U.S. Spotify record for “Biggest Single Day,” amassing 4.7 million streams on Jan. 25th. It continues to be atop both U.S. and Global Spotify charts.
