Rapper GLC is someone who grew up with Kanye West in Chicago and was featured on Ye’s first two albums. He has been vocal before about how Kanye needed to be around better people. “Kanye’s a sponge. Whatever he’s around, that’s what he becomes, so if you around a certain group of people on a regular basis, you begin to look like them, you may begin to act like them,” he said during an interview on WGCI’s The Chicago Morning Takeover last May.
GLC has been consistent with his theories and opinion about his former partner but looks like he’s had enough of trying to explain to Kanye how he needs to do better. Kanye’s recent remark that 400 years of slavery sounds like a “choice” has rubbed many people the wrong way and rightfully so. GLC is one of those folks. In a lengthy Instagram post, the Chicago emcee and activist first explained how poor Kanye’s comment was. “Slavery was a choice? When there were over 400 slave revolts in the America’s? Somebody get this man in a rehab. He needs help not ridicule,” GLC wrote.
He then went on in his caption by emotionally writing how he tried his best to prevent this situation and apologized to Kanye’s late mother Donda West that he was not successful in doing so. “Sorry Donda, I promise we tried our best. This sh*t hurts!” he signed off. Read his full thoughts below.
“@vanlathan articulated himself in a profound manner for the people! We learned at an early age, reasoning with an addict is impossible when they are off the sauce. I saw the interview with @cthagod when #Kanye said his boys would get his pills for him. This shows he don’t know what friends are. We wouldn’t feed your addiction, we would violate u for violating law plus self & get u help. I saw when he said Harriet Tubman on a $20 dollar bill was some old slave shit. This was utterly disrespectful to a real saint! This woman sacrificed her life in order to liberate our people. Our currency now has the faces of slave owners & when someone says let’s put a liberator on it, you have a problem with that. Slavery was a choice? When there were over 400 slave revolts in the America’s? Somebody get this man in a rehab. He needs help not ridicule. This shit is disturbing as well as disappointing. #Sakiya how u let it get to this point? How y’all let this man get #Lipo? Who ok’d this shit? I been said #SaveYe & some said it was bitterness. I saw this shit coming & tried to prevent it. Sorry Donda, I promise we tried our best. This shit hurts! 🙏🏾”
