UPDATE: The final numbers are in. Nas’ NASIR comes in at #5 on the charts, selling 78,848 copies with 49,192 of those as pure sales. Jay Rock debuts at #15 with 31,417 copies of Redemption sold with 9,290 of those as pure sales.
Previous story:
This past Friday, Nas finally released his long awaited new album NASIR, produced (almost) entirely by Kanye West. It contained seven songs in total with additional contributions from The-Dream, Tony Williams, 070 Shake and more (full credits here).
The Mass Appeal/Def Jam set is projected to move 70-80k copies in the first week with 40-50k out of that coming from pure sales, according to HDD. With The Carters and 5 Seconds of Summer currently in fight for the number 1 spot, Nas would have to settle with a top 5 position on the Billboard 200 this week at best. For comparison, Nas’ last album Life is Good released in 2012 debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 after selling 149k copies in its first week.
Jay Rock’s new album Redemption is on course to move 24-27k (6-7k pure sales).
