Juice WRLD’s mother has released an official statement on her son’s demise.
Speaking with TMZ on Thursday, Carmella Wallace said that the family was deeply sad about his death and acknowledged that he was battling drug addiction for a while, as was clear from his music. “We loved Jarad with all of our hearts and cannot believe our time with him has been cut short. As he often addressed in his music and to his fans, Jarad battled with prescription drug dependency.”
Ms. Wallace continued that Juice would often sing and rap about his struggles with prescription drugs dependency but it wasn’t to promote the use of them. “Addiction knows no boundaries and its impact goes way beyond the person fighting it. Jarad was a son, brother, grandson, friend and so much more to so many people who wanted more than anything to see him defeat addiction,” she continued. “We hope the conversations he started in his music and his legacy will help others win their battles as that is what he wanted more than anything. We know that Jarad’s legacy of love, joy and emotional honesty will live on.”
Juice WRLD died from a seizure after getting off a private flight from L.A. to Chicago on Sunday. He reportedly swallowed several pills to hide them from being detected by law enforcement who were ready to search him at the airport.
