The Roots Picnic for 2020 had an exciting lineup but had to be called off in wake of the pandemic.
However, the organizers moved to a virtual event to still give fans something to be excited about and also pushing a voter registration drive. Former first lady Michelle Obama was Saturday event’s co-host along with members of the legendary The Roots crew, Questlove and Black Thought.
The event kicked off with Michelle Obama encouraging viewers to vote in this year’s elections and how it impacts our lives. The event also supported Obama’s nonpartisan nonprofit organization, When We All Vote. The event featured exclusive performances by The Roots, H.E.R., Roddy Ricch, Lil Baby, SZA, Polo G and Kirk Franklin among others. SZA performed her CTRL track ‘Normal Girl’ outdoors while Lil Baby rocked his protest track ‘The Bigger Picture’.
Couldn’t be more excited that @whenweallvote is teaming up to co-host @TheRoots Picnic on June 27! Join us and get registered to vote: https://t.co/vXp9MHLm8S pic.twitter.com/XHtTaDfIvT
