Apple Music Releases 2020 Year-End List: Most Streamed Songs, Albums, More

Following Spotify, Apple music has also unveiled its year end list of the most streamed songs, albums and more of 2020.

For the first time, Apple Music is also sharing the Top 100 2020: Most-Read Lyrics chart, and the first Shazamed locations of the Top 25 Songs. The latter is an interesting stat where they share the location where a particular hit was Shazamed for the first time. Below are the key highlights:

– Top Song of 2020: The Box – Roddy Ricch
– Top Album: Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial – Roddy Ricch
– Top Lyrics: WAP (feat. Megan Thee Stallion) – Cardi B
– Top Shazamed Song: Dance Monkey – Tones And I

Apple Music has always attracted an audience which is very hip hop dominated so it is no surprise that most of the albums and songs on the year-end list are from the genre. Roddy Ricch’s Please Excuse Me For Being Anti-Social is the most streamed album on the platform while ‘The Box’ is the most streamed song.

Apple Music notes that “while The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’ had the second most streams this year, it actually had the most listeners, which is a testament to its global appeal.” The very first Shazam for the song came from Paris, France.

If you look at the Shazam list, you will notice that a lot of the the songs were first discovered outside of the US. Here are the full lists:
