Saturday Spotlight is back for another week. The emails are enriched in talent. Multiple names and a multitude of styles entwined with personality. That’s the bread and butter of the Spotlight. The discovery of a new sound, a sound strong enough to inspire the generation after you. Whether you spin the discs, loop the samples, or spit on them all the same — we provide the Spotlight for you to shine on.
All upcoming artists can submit music to us for Saturday Spotlight on this link.
Apollo Lofton
Apollo Lofton is the prime definition of lyrical murder. Hailing from Miami, Florida; Apollo is influenced by wordsmiths like Eminem, Nas, and Jay-Z. It shows in the music. The opening track “Introvert” is probably our favorite from Apollo’s Truth Is I’m Terrified project. He chops through a looping, chipmunk’d sample with precision and boastful confidence. Lyrically, Apollo is sorting his head on the track while exercising his verbal prowess. He’s an emcee not through his heart alone, but his overall hunger on the mic. Check out “Introvert” below:
YaYa
Yaya has a voice that grips you and doesn’t let go. Raised in Toronto, the 22-year-old, 6’6 guard belts out melodies over a simple guitar chord based beat on his latest single, “Ease the Pain.” The song revolves around both sides feeling pain. Yaya is drowning in pills and lean to fight inner demons, yet at the same time always has consequences prepared for his enemies. His melodic vocals make it easy to get lost in his verses.
